Well guys, it doesn’t get bigger than this. Dolphins in Port Harcourt this weekend before the final showdown with Pillars in Aba on Sunday.
The League season gradually inches to a close and being two points off Pillars mean that two wins from the remaining two fixtures will give us back the title. Nothing less will do.
How tough can that be? Well, Let me give you another picture.
We lose to Dolphins tomorrow and our last day battle with Pillars become a mere formality and the side from Kano will come to Aba, win the title for the third consecutive time just that this time it is on our own turf. That is tough very very tough to swallow.
So we go with the lighter of the two tough options. Beat Dolphins tomorrow then give our all against Pillars coming weekend.
For tomorrow’s game, there’s a lot of publicity and noise surrounding the game both for the good and the bad reasons. Dolphins, Sharks and Rivers Angels have laid siege all week at the Rivers State Government House asking for their sign on fees. They have barely trained and one will think it’s a good time to play Dolphins. Well, I’ll tell you what, the last time they did this few weeks ago, they went to Umuahia that weekend, having barely even trained and guess what? They got a draw in Umuahia. For Sharks, it was the same week they beat Pillars I think.
So my message is simple and straight forward as always. Set about the task at hand, leaving nothing for granted. Approach this game professionally and come on guys, 2 wins and we have the title, is that too much to ask?
Can we beat Dolphins in Port Harcourt? Yes we can. To be honest with you, if we can’t beat Dolphins tomorrow then we don’t deserve to win the title. On the other hand, beat them, and then we can pummel Pillars in Aba.
Our fans will be in intimidatingly large numbers in Port Harcourt. We will scream our heads out as we cheer the boys. If you are around the
South East, I don’t think you need to be preached to as to why you should go cheer the boys tomorrow.
It’s also a mini contest between Mfon Udoh and Dolphin’s Emem Eduok who are both on 20 goals. The two also join the list released within the week of the Super Eagles B that will open the Uyo Stadium on Thursday next week. Mfon has been exceptional all season. Scoring more than the rest of the team combined and he fully deserves all accolades hauled in his direction and getting a brace tomorrow will be good. However, I don’t mind a 1-0 victory scored in the 95th minute by their goalkeeper in his goalpost using his backside. Anything that means 3 points for us is very very welcome.
Pillars will obviously trash Nembe City in Kano and they will have an eye on proceedings at the Liberation Stadium. So let’s do what we have to and get over this with.
2 wins and we have our trophy back. Can we do it? Of course we can. So let’s do it.
As always, if you cannot be at the stadium, you can follow the LMC’s live coverage on Twitter @LMCNPFL or their Facebook page League Management Company.
