The boys do business in Benin-Republic, onto the next round.

Good morning Guys,

Congratulations we are in the next round of the CAF Champions League. 1-0 victory on the day and 4-0 on aggregate, what an empathic way to  announce our presence.
We were a bit under pressure having been the only Nigerian side to have played and won (expectedly) at home in the first leg. To be honest, it would have taken a miracle to overturn the deficit but being unsure of what we would meet there, I was cautious.
The starting lineup was really surprising. Coach Kadiri Ikhana went for a 4-4-2 playing both his strikers, Peter Onyekachi and Chinonso Okonkwo who was complaining of pains and aches on Friday, Emma Anyanwu dropped to the bench and Chibuzor Madu came in his place. Perhaps he picked Madu because he’s the fastest Central defender we have and he can cover up for Chinedu. His aerial prowess is another added advantage- defending and attacking. Anyway this is not our tactical post. Hopefully we will do justice to that in the coming days.
Baring a few early chances, they barely troubled us and their 35,000 or so capacity stadium was not even filled up. In fact I was expecting a much more intense environment but it was far from that being the case. The fact that we did not sit back to defend meant that we would always create chances at their goal. New signing Ezekiel Bassey who took Abalogu’s place in the starting XI had his chances but he missed. He would be replaced by Andrew in the 41st minute.
The substitute would eventually get us the breakthrough in the second half extinguishing any hope the hosts had of moving into the next round. They resorted to dangerous tackles and one of their thugs got Bobby Sokari injured, earning a red card in the process. Kadiri’s reaction was to send in Stone Cold Steve Austin aka Raphael Boumsong.
The game would end soon afterwards handing us a date with Smouha in 2 weeks time. We join the rest of the Nigerian Contingent who also passed the first round exams in flying colours.
No doubt nothing has been won just yet but if there was a perfect way to start the season, there’s no better way to. Winning home and away scoring 4 in the process and conceding none, Perfect. Yes, nothing has been won but we can look at the new season with Rocket high expectations.
Congratulations Guys and here’s to a great season- Enjoy this dear Enyimba fans wherever in the world you are.

P.S I will go through the rumble for the ones who got the predictions right and we will send you your jerseys. Congratulations in advance.
