Hi guys and a very good morning to you.
We line up against Bayelsa United this evening in our third fixture of the new League season. While we have so far impressed in the Champions League, we just haven’t quite kicked it off in the League. Two points from two League games is not the worst record out there but then that Akwa United game should have been three points because you look at their other two matches, they have suffered two straight defeats including one against FC Taraba in Uyo. In other words, we should have beaten them in Aba on Match Day one.
On the back of a decent result from Makurdi, we should be fired up for this one. Usually Enyimba starts the season late, surging up to catch up with the league leaders as the season comes to a close but we should be doing differently this season. Look at Pillars, they have played just one game and are already ahead of us on the table even though we have played one game more. See what I mean?
Bayelsa United themselves have barely lighted up the world this season. They rallied to get a point in their first game after conceding against Lobi early in that game. Their next encounter was against Kano Pillars in Kano. 2-0 against the League Champions and its just one point from two games. Don’t be too quick to judge them because we are only one point better.
In all, we should be winning this comfortably. Last season, this fixture’s result was 4-0 at the Enyimba Stadium in one of our very best displays at the Enyimba Stadium last season. Hence asking for more of same is not too much. Solomon Ogbedie is one of the most respected coaches in the League and he saved them out of relegation after joining them late last year. He says they will look to start better this year hence we must ensure that start is from their next game, not this.
As usual we start early and have a good composure in front of goal. The chances will come but we must also be ready to take them.
We welcome a few players who were missing in midweek in this tie. Notable is Mfon Udoh who is trying to inspire himself to get back to his best for us. One of the players told me they had a bet on who will finish the season with more goals than the other. Honestly, that the kind of thing one likes to hear. Moreso he should be traveling to join the Super Eagles on Monday and he knows Amokachi wants him as fit as possible. Race against time? Consequences of not playing as regularly as his mates.
New signing Ebenezar Odeyemi could make his debut today. He got his registration completed late last week and according to him, can’t wait to make his appearance for us. Would be great if the Enyimba fans see him today. A debut goal? That would be awesome.
We could also see Ifeanyi George at left back to come in for Idris Aloma as we have one eye on Smouha at the weekend.
So the expected line up could be; Femi Thomas, Ifeanyi George, Bala Zakka, Chibuzor Madu, Chinedu Udoji, Chima Uluocha, Nzube Anazemeba, Daniel Etor, Ezekiel Bassey, Ebenezar Odeyemi, Mfon Udoh,
Call that my ‘wishful thinking’ starting eleven. Kadiri Ikhana might just prefer the players he is more comfortable and more used to but with a crucial game against Smouha at the weekend, he’s very likely to make changes. He will however pick the boys that will get the job done for him.

Enjoy the game and cheers to our first three points.
