Some Saturday morning thoughts and our Jersey numbers for the season.

Ready? Action.

Good morning fellow Nigerians and non Nigerians,

Yesterday the Super Eagles management released a new list for the Sunday friendly against South Africa trimming the initial list to just 23. They dropped one of our two players In the train and took along with them the one we I wished they had dropped. Mfon Udoh was the one dropped and Kingsley Sokari was bundled and hurled into the aircraft.

Regular readers and followers of this blog know that I for one am uncomfortable with the fact that Kingsley is not with the team in our preparations for next weekend’s showdown in Egypt. In the game against Uganda, Sokari was on the bench, did not even make a 2 minutes appearance like his Enyimba teammate Mfon. Talking some more about this would amount to whining so I better shut up.

Mfon will be disappointed not to have made the cut despite how good we all know he is. The thing is unless he gets back to the best we saw last season, his place in the Super Eagles team is in jeopardy. No matter how good you used to be or how good you could be, every National team manager is concerned about how good you are right now more than anything else. So he will pack his bags, head back to camp and keep his mind on setting things right with his football.

He is unregistered for our Champions League campaign but can join the rest of the team in the quarter finals, if we get that far. According to CAF rules, a team can register more players if they registered less than thirty initially for the competition. We registered 26 including Rasheed Olabiyi who is now Shooting at the Ibadan stars. So for Mfon to feature for us, he has to wait till we get to the quarter finals.

Someone asked for our jersey numbers ahead of the new season. I don’t have all right now, I can’t claim to have all because I don’t but I’ve been able to compile quite a number which I have penned below. I was tempted to dedicate that as a single post for another day but a lot of you are not going a-voting so you need a long long post to read this morning. You can also read my article on SuperSport this morning. It is on what we have learned so far in the Nigerian Premier League this season. Read and be blessed.

  1. This is nice. I will compare this with jersey numbers I recorded every time we had played this year, starting from super 6 to all the NPFL and champion league matches

  2. Surprised to hear that Udoh was not registered for the CCL despite having 4 free slots to make it 30.
Is there a QF stage in the CCL? I thought after the group stage, the semi final comes next? Please enlighten me.
Thanks for the jersey numbers. Can you go one step further to give us the players registered for NPFL and CCL.
    Cheers bro. You tight.

    1. Well, Mfon’s case was that everyone thought he will join the likes of Emem Eduok and Osaghona out of the country but his deal to
      Ismaily fell thru last minute.

I could mail you the list of those registered for the Champions League, in fact it is more or less the first twenty nine numbers (1-29).

      1. Group stage na quarter finals. Top two clubs in each group will move to semi finals

  3. NPFL match against Bayelsa United,LMC recorded Bala Zaka as no 29 and Ifeanyi George as no 24. Please crosscheck, maybe LMC is wrong. I can email the screenshot to you if you need it. Also,Chimezie Amanfor was given no31 in that match.

  4. Yes a goal keeper can spot any jearsey number, but it’s odd when you hear that a goal keeper will be or is spotting jearsey N0 2 which is Moses Ocheje our 3rd choice for now. Furthermore, still don’t know yet while Ugwu Uwadiegwu have not feature for us this season. Perhaps, he’s injured or have been ignored by no nonesence Khadiri Ikhana.

    1. Ocheje’s number 2 jersey is odd but you know some of these players have some superstition to some of their jerseys and their footballing things and habits.

Everyone is concerned about Uwadiegwu’s absence but you see Idris Aloma who has him out of the team is Kadiri’s choice. It is left with Uwadiegwu to prove his worth in the coming days. His chance will come, he should take it when it does.
