Another routine 1-0 win.

Happy Good Friday everyone.

For those who don’t know what Good Friday means or stands for, its the day we Christians celebrate the death of Jesus Christ. Sounds ironic, how do you celebrate death? Well, its a death that produced/produces life hence the cause for the celebration. You need more details, hit me up.

Enyimba bagged her second three points of the season yesterday at the Umuahia Township Stadium. Joseph Osadiaye’s first half strike proved sufficient to secure the victory and despite a second half surge by the visitors from Jos, our defenders did just enough to keep them at bay.

The manager made just a few changes, four actually. Both fullbacks were swapped- Ifeanyi George and Chima Akas replacing Uche John and Ugwu Uwadiegwu. The other changes were in midfield where Nzube Anaezemba and Ezekiel Bassey replaced Ikechukwu Ibenegbu and Mfon Udoh. The rest from the Burundi defeat remained in place.

We started well with a nice little tempo and I was particularly impressed with Nzube’s running and his willingness to make something happen for us. You can have a decent game in midfield when Dare Ojo is your partner and yesterday, we saw again why we paid what we did for him. Assured, confident with a good right footed shot in him. Thank you Kwara United for going on Relegation.

We did lose Chukwude Stephen to injury very early in the game. He had tried to run it off but couldn’t, that paved way for Ugochukwu Leonard. Christian Pyagbara then missed a glorious opportunity to put us ahead ballooning his strike high and wide. That of course was minutes after they gave us a scare at our end, safe hands Theo coming to the rescue.

The breakthrough would come Osadiaye’s right foot after successfully waltzing into their box. He did a nice give and take with Pyagbara and rather than wait for the ball to fall kindly for his better foot, he had a go with his right and that was it. Ndem left clutching thin air.

It proved enough and of course as long as we wouldn’t be conceding, the team didn’t break sweat to get a second. 1-0 wins are very common with us. The visitors did show some fight in the second and looked like they had some intent of pulling level. Once, safe hands Theo pushed away a goal bound strike but that was just about it. Emma and Skippo and Chima (who I think had a solid debut for us) did well shielding us from harm. Ifeanyi George at RB did OK and he was a danger via set pieces. He even grazed the crossbar from one of the strikes.

In all, maximum points secured and a nice warm up game with Sunday’s big game in mind. By the way Coach Imama was in the stands to watch us yesterday, I hope he missed the things that bothered me from the performance. We climb just one place up the table with four make up fixtures lined up ahead. Maybe not a stormy performance but just what the doctor ordered. The team will keep improving.

Back tomorrow with more.
