“We know they will come out with a lot of pressure but if we keep our heads calm, we will withstand the pressure and even score first, like we did in Burundi (against Vital’O),”
“The first leg was an interesting game because a lot of people underrated us, a lot of people didn’t give us a chance in that game, but we proved we can beat any team in Africa. I am confident that the same thing will happen again and we will prevail in Tunisia.”
“Etoile are a good team, such that if you give them a small space they will hurt you, but we can match them. They are well known in Africa and people respect them a lot, but our boys are ready for them. We want to play in the group stage and we can’t afford to mess up now, not when we are so close.”
The words of defender Uche John who put in a decent shift against the Tunisians in an empty Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium few days ago. Hold on, there’s some more. This time from Mfon Udoh, the competition’s current top scorer.
“It’s going to be a difficult game, Irrespective of the victory, we will give our best. We will forget the first leg and try to be up to the task.”
“When we played them in Nigeria they gave us a sign of what they are capable of so I believe that in front of their home fans, they will be quite dangerous. But if we play with a cool head, we will be victorious.”
“It’s an important game for two big teams in Africa but I know we will do enough to carry the day. They will be under pressure, not us.”
“Yesterday we trained and we felt the weather. It is cold. Because we are playing at night, it would affect the all players slightly, but it wouldn’t be an excuse for our failure. We will go out and play our game and by God’s grace, return to Nigeria with a group stage ticket.”
Add that to the words of the skipper just after the first game, we are looking at our toughest game of the season so far. But this is what the CAF Champions League is about and this is why experience is everything at this stage.
Already we’ve seen some of their antics as was predicted. They withdrew the transportation they gave us prior leaving us renting cabs for our first training. That should be a tip of the iceberg- but the thing is we won’t give up without a fight ourselves.
That’s basically all we expect of the boys tonight. Get out there, give in your best such that at full-time you would be satisfied that you did what was expected of you.
For those of us at home, we would pray, we would watch, we would offer our goodwill and we will trust that it will all come together nicely.
“Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow… I will fear no evil. Why? For thou art with me…”
God is with us, we will be just fine.
Kick off is 7pm and not the 6pm announced earlier. We have a three goal lead, we can hold our forte just nicely.
Back tomorrow with some good news… I believe.
