Back again, it’s time for our Match Preview. The rains probably read my mind and stopped on their own, no one bothering to kabash or attempt any spiri koko activities.
This evening, we line up against Nasarawa United, a side very famous from their heroics of last year. They broke records thrice last season, beating Pillars in Kano, Sunshine in Akure and FC Ifeanyi Ubah in Nnewi on route a Continental place last season. The fairy tale ended at that point and their Continental campaign ended in abysmal fashion in Algeria.
They have looked to mend together their broken pieces but they have not been able to pick up any kind of good result away from home this year, they have been at the least, a shadow of the dogged solid miners of last year.
But like we know in football, it just takes one good result for a team’s mind-set to have a remarkable and miraculous turnaround. I mean look at us. We were one spot kick away from our season crumbling underneath us till Chima Akas fired a penalty in Sousse that changed our story. We won in Uyo, then won in Kano. That Jump-started our season and we are looking good, with a pretty decent unbeaten run.
Our surge up the table got a boost with the Giwa expulsion and although we are yet to see the adjusted League table, we would surely see the team go a couple of positions up. We just have to strengthen our ascent with yet another home win today. Weeks ago, we were looking at being unable to even land a Continental place but look where we are. If we get three wins from our four remaining games this first half of the season, we would be top of the table. Unbelievable!
That in itself means we have no excuses for not getting the maximum points this evening. With the early runners in some kind of surprise slump, we just have to make sure we take full advantage.
While we manage yet another fixture at the Umuahia grounds, we hope expectedly to returning home. We have gotten repeated assurances from the management that that will happen soon. The government by the way has made available two 42 Seater buses for the two state owned teams. Enyimba and Abia Warriors. We just pray work gets faster on our turf.
This evening, Nzube returns from his suspension and you would bank on him to get back in the team. Perhaps Ojo continues at Right Back and up front, it probably would be Abu Azeez and Ugochukwu Leonard or maybe Peter Onyekachi. It’s difficult to say. I don’t envy Mr Aigbogun for once. But whoever gets the nod, you’d know they would put in their best to ensure delivery of the maximum points we need.
Match updates will be on @EnyimbaEnyi on Twitter as well as the LMC’s social media platforms so you would surely be in the loop as per what’s going on at the Umuahia grounds.
We are on our way to the top but only a superb and determined performance this evening will ensure that.
Let’s get the job done gentlemen.
Back tomorrow with good news I hope.
