It’s December the 1st and 2016 will disappear in the next 31 days. This year would then join the numerous others before it, never to be seen again. It did fly past, didn’t it, this year I mean. In any case, we stay grateful and expectant knowing that every blessing allocated for 2016 will surely find its way to our residence. Amen somebody?
Well it also means that the new League season will start in 17 days from today. That’s less than 3 weeks! Although there’s going to some interruption to accommodate the rice and chicken eating of the Christmas period, it’s going to be a quick season, one expected to end sometime in July next year. We’d see how we can get that achieved.
The team, our team is in Calabar having left the Ijebu Ode came few minutes after I’d finished scripting yesterday’s post. With the number of minutes the gaffer allocated to the players who were actively involved, it’s about time more preparation is put in as the new season looms. Incidentally, ours would be the third team camping in Calabar. Abia Warriors and Akwa United the other two.
In the meantime, it appears Center Back, Ikeh ThankGod has also left the club, pitching his tent with back with Abia Warriors, a club he played for before signing up with us last season. I guess both parties felt the relationship isn’t meant to be and they left in opposite directions.
It’s weird to me really because if you saw any Enyimba game last season that ThankGod Ikeh featured for us, you would be alarmed at the number of interceptions he makes. As one very well versed in the League, his positional sense and his ability to win the ball neatly stands out. Being paired with Udoji back then, his tackling is calmer and rarely does he give away free kicks or yellow cards.
I honestly am not sure as to the rational behind his being let go, it’s just surprising to me. Perhaps, the gaffer believes he has a better and maybe younger central defender to fill in the role or maybe there is some behind the scenes issue in play here. It’s tough to tell. I however also trust that the guys remaining would prove to be better replacements. Well, we’ve seen that fella with a long name from Sunshine Stars and Nelson from Heartland. Uche John and Anaemena sums up the quartet and we are looking OK there.
The only news is that Musa Najere who joined Akwa United a few weeks ago, may indeed not continue with them as we believed initially. I’m not sure as to what exactly transpired but it looks like he would be plying his trade some place else. He’s been in quite a number of clubs and based on the on-tbe-pitch contribution, he’s a player I do admire. Well, I trust it all opens up nicely for him in his future endeavors. By the way, it’s good to see Ibenegbu back in the team, there were whispers he could join Rivers United but thankfully he’s back with us. Heartwarming stuff.
OK guys that’s your 1st day of December blog post. Please note that it’s never too early to start sending in your Christmas packs and gifts. My gates are continually open.
Have a wonderfilled day and indeed month.
