New season fixtures and the many other things happening at Enyimba

Good morning All

Apologies for the no-show for two days now. I’m in Enugu. I’ve been in Enugu since the Super Four started and on Friday morning, I was whisked away by my ‘host’ at 6am for his Sports show at 7. I couldn’t serve anything that day. The day that followed, my tummy went a-rioting. The wonderful things we eat while in the way. Sorry guys! There’s so much to rant about so why not we get started?

First of all, we kick-off our Premier League season against Sunshine Stars at ‘home’. That’s according to the draws that was done last night. Home of course ranges between Calabar and Port Harcourt. From what I know from where I’m standing currently, it looks like home will be Calabar. In other words, our good ol stadium is still wrapped in cotton wool. And unless there’s a miracle during the Christmas season, that game will not hold at our place.

It would be an interesting match, that fixture of course because we have our grievance from last season where they held us to a draw in Port Harcourt. After that game, Chinedu Udoji admitted to the media that our title defence was as good as ended. It wasn’t of course as much as the result as was the inability for things to just work out as nicely as we would have wanted. Something was significantly wrong in the team.

Anyway, all that’s gone now. We have an opportunity to get our pound of flesh and a performance similar to the one we dolled out to them in that 3-1 victory in Aba two seasons ago would be just perfect: Roll on the new season. Speaking of that, it’s very likely that the new season would kick off in January. That is significant in many respects- more of that in the days ahead.

Quickly off that, we have our lads in camp preparing and just in case you’re yet to hear, we’ve got striker Ismaila Gata with the team now in Calabar. It’s a quality addition by all respects and interestingly, I can bet it’s a second missionary journey for the guy at our club. I’ll scan thru my head a little more on that but I’m pretty much certain he’s been with us before. I think we are looking good in attack by way of personnel. I hope it’s a similar output as well.

Big man, Obiozor keeps improving daily and like we said a couple of weeks ago, he’s surely got a big big year ahead of him and the significant of that is not lost on him. He’s looking fitter and in the friendly game they played yesterday, he’s got himself a brace. Yes, it’s only a friendly and pre-season game but for one who has been out for such a long period, goals, any and every kind of goals would do him a world of good.

Enyimba would have a cameo at the Copa Lagos. It’s a weird format this season because of the Beach Soccer AFCON starting on the 13th. Nigeria will play Switzerland today and Enyimba would play Pepsi Academy. Don’t get too excited though, cos it will be a congregation of unknown faces and whatever result comes from that should be taken in the same vein as when your kid brother tells you Arsene Wenger beat Jose Mourinho on Football Manager.

The Super Four ends today and I hope Wikki Tourists win it :). I kid you. It’s quite open with Rangers and the Tourists tied on four points each. Rivers United trail with three points while the Kawasuki Kawasaki Inamoto led FC IfeanyiUbah are leading from the rear. Let’s trust there’s a grandstand finish but it’s been a good tournament oozing with quality. LMC has done well. That is irrepressible.

That’s all for today, there will be more tomorrow morning.

Its our end of year Thanksgiving service and I am grateful to the Lord for what was for me, a very beautiful year.

Oh give thanks unto the Lord for he is good, for his mercies endure forever.

How about this as a bonus shot?

@Mekus_Mekus: FC IfeanyiUbah has contacted a new Coach. He will resume in the next three days. His name is Paul Aigbogun
