We leave it late against Akwa United but it’s a good win

Good morning Guys, so we passed the Akwa United test in flying colors. Mfon Udoh came to the rescue yet again firing us to a win and stuffing in the 3 points in Uncle Gbenga Ogunbote’s good ol’bag. Happy times.

I was worried about the readiness of the team considering the fact that we just got back from Maiduguri Thursday and when the game dragged on till the closing moments, I thought, Okay here we go. But then Mfon Udoh popped up again, volleying home 8 minutes from time to send every known Enyimba supporter to the high heavens.

The gaffer made 5 changes to the side that lost against El-Kanemi Warriors. Kester stepped in for Okpako and Mfon Udoh returned to the lineup. Chima Akas stepped in at Left Back and Stanley Dimgba also got the nod. In fairness both teams did have chances to take the lead but wouldnt take them.

The visitors did hit the woodwork once or twice, I don’t know and I don’t really care because at the end of the day, Safe Hands Theo got yet another clean sheet. Again the worry that this being closer home to Akwa would ensure they got the better of us was according to the result baseless and entirely uncalled for. I need to up my faith.

Mustapha did score a legit goal but the referee had other ideas, denying the young goal wizard his third of the season. That notwithstanding, his quality is undoubted and evident for all to see. He does get in the rumble and always looks to make things happen. You look at him and you can only agree that he’s made for big things.

The big adulation for today however is for the goal king himself: Mfon Obiagu Udoh. Ukwu na enye goal 1 of Enyimba. Not trying to pile up any kind of pressure on him but you know he would fetch them goals this season and the captainship means he’s fired up for the best for the club. The feel-good air about the club is returning. It’s not the end did the season yet but we look headed in the right direction.

The Injury to Kelly Kester, added to those of Ikechukwu Ibenegbu, Dare Ojo and Ifeanyi Anaemena does give the downside of this win but we hope they’ll be back with the squad soon. We do have some catching up to do and you’re gonna look at that and admit we could really use some point on the road. A win on the road would must certainly hurl us right where we know we should be and somehow deep inside we know this team is capable of that.

Welldone guys and congratulations on this win.

Back tomorrow
