Good morning all. You can understand the no-show on the blog for the past couple of days. However we felt this away point deserves a post, but even at that, today’s post was written by Dammydudu Conrad. Follow him on Twitter @dammydudu. Below
It was all drama and entertainment as Enyimba got a vital away point in Ilorin in a 1-1 draw against ABS FC with goals from Mfon Udoh for the Seven time champions and Stone getting the equalizer from the spot.
In a match that saw nine yellow cards, a penalty, a penalty shout, the likes of Dare Ojo, Isiaka Oladuntoye, Adeshina Ismail Gata, Femi Oladapo all coming back to their roots, this was an exciting atmosphere for the fans in Ilorin. The other plot of course was about the Gata brothers who play one for either side and like a well written script, their respective contribution was telling in ensuring a share of the spoils for both sides.
There are was no much action in the first half, as both teams could hardly penetrate through the opponents defence. Enyimba did come close a couple of times but the finish was erring. It was also similar at the other goalpost but the defensive setup of Enyimba did keep the home attackers at bay.
Halfway through the first half, the centre referee made a pretty huge call that would almost change the tempo of the game. ABS FC speedstar Chigozirim Metu ran toward the Enyimba area, solid defender, Samson Gbadebo, made a sliding tackle to stop the former Gateway FC player. The home crowd cried for a penalty, it was a decent shout but the referee thought different.
After a barren first half, captain of the Elephants, Mfon Udoh got the opener in the 46th minute after a terrible mistake by ABS FC defender, Chinedu Alanah. Mfon exchanged passes with Enyimba’s Gata and fired home to stun the home support. It was the cue the ABS gaffer needed as he brought on his own Gata who had started from the bench for the injured Metu Chigozirim.
ABS FC then took over, peppering the Enyimba goal in the last 20minutes of the game. A combination of brilliant saves by Enyimba’s Ghanian goalkeeper Fatau Dauda and poor finishing by the ABS frontmen made it look like ABS was about to suffer a first home defeat of the season.
But Adeshina Issa Gata got a penalty for the home team in the 82nd minute when he dribbled past the Enyimba defence but was stopped unlawfully by Kelly Kester. Substitute Stone Evboumwan stepped up and slotted the spot kick to give ABS FC a hard earned point.
Enyimba’s Chukwude who had earlier replaced Ismaila Gata nearly restored Enyimba’s lead deep in injury time but he wasted the opportunity. In the end, a goal and a point apiece seemed fair for both sides.
We called it on the blog didn’t we? Afelokhai keeps at home and ensures victory. Dauda, the draw specialist in goal away from home and we have an away point. ThatEnyimbaFan doesn’t charge for these services. About time we did, don’t you think?
