Kelly assures Enyimba will come good this season

Good morning Everyone, 

The new season is only days away and starting from this week, the first signs will be visible. The Super Four kicks off in Enugu from Wednesday with the Continental quartet rolling up their sleeves and testing themselves against themselves. Hosts Rangers, Rivers United, Wikki Tourists and FC IfeanyiUbah. 

It’s only a pre-season tournament regardless of how you look at it and although it would be nice to emerge winner, one must be careful to award it just the right value it deserves. 

Last year’s was won by Akwa United and they were the first to be dumped out of the Continent. The Season before, Dolphins led from the rear in the Super Four Invitational and were also the first to be ushered off the Continent. My point hence is, while emerging winner may not be the most important thing, how a team plays will show how ready they are. 

We would be watching from home and from Calabar but midfielder Kelly Kester gives the insider information on going-ons within the team. This, of course was culled from the LMC site  

“We are really working hard and hoping to get things right this term. We were in Ijebu Ode last week as part of our pre-season programme. Last season was a very big one for me personally, unfortunately as a team we didn’t perform too well, hopefully with the quality of players here this season, it will be way better.” 

“It wouldn’t be difficult to strike some sort of understanding because we are aware of each other’s quality from previous games we’ve played against each other.” he snapped when asked on how easy or otherwise it would be to integrate the new players.

“Ogunbote is not just a coach, he’s like a father to me. He has never doubted my abilities. He gave me my first break as a rookie way back in Sharks FC and I also worked with him at 3SC. I think with God on our side he can bring that fear factor back to the team.”

“I will like to tell them (Enyimba fans) to be patient and be behind the team in difficult times and hopefully by the grace of God, we will come good this season.”

Kelly in his second season at the club and should get ample opportunity to excel in that midfield role with Dare Ojo. It’s a big season for both of them and a chance to really bring to fore their true quality. Let’s see them tackle that challenge. 

Finally for today, I promised I was going to have a word or two with regards to my ‘colleagues’ and how they ‘covered’ the #AWCON2016. If you want women football to be taken seriously, you must showcase it in a style beautiful enough. Some of us writing about the League see ‘Angels in stones’ and that’s why there is very good coverage of the League. 

It is not OK to go for a tournament and there are no articles/podcasts from you anywhere on websites or blogs talking of the event. Dropping Facebook posts like little bits of gossip are not OK. If you can’t do match reports, you can do interviews, you can do feature pieces. 

Tell us how Desire Oparanozie has emerged one of the most fearsome strikers in the Continent. Tell us how Assiat’s move to Arsenal has improved her game. Tell us how Ngozi Okobi is still the best in her role or how Rita Chikwelu performed in her captain’s role in the tournament. You want female football to be taken seriously, you gotta start taking it seriously yourselves and improve.
